AlbumLab is a straightforward piece of software that allows anyone design their own professional-looking photo albums and prepare them for printing. Creating this product required our expertise in different spheres of software production.

Our client from New Zealand had a business idea to start a full-featured service of creating photo books, which implied a designer's software tool and preparation of the book, its printing, binding and delivery of the ready product to the customer's door. Sibers developed the whole project from the stage of marketing research when we evaluated existing competitors' offers and prepared the overview of the project features. Our specialists created a complete business vision for the client with a view to create a unique corporate identity in order to set the firm apart and make the product catchy. We analyzed the market of remote printing services and solutions on creating personalized photo albums. The idea of the project's name appeared as a result of brainstorming and taking into account the fact that a brand name, a domain name and background knowledge behind this lettering not only inform on the service, but also bring value at first sight. AlbumLab was considered the best choice since it is short, easy to remember, graphically good-looking and has one possible spelling. Also, it was available in the major domain name zones.

The AlbumLab service consists of a desktop application and a web-based server part. The application was written in Delphi and required certain experience of converting PDF and Jpeg files and burning CDs and DVDs. The server part is made in PHP using MySQL database and Sophit framework developed by our team.

The workflow developed by our technical analysts is so easy that even your grandma can do her own photobook. When you want to create your own photo book with AlbumLab, you download the AlbumLab free software from the web site and install it on your PC. Then, you choose the album size and a portrait or landscape format and customize basic colors and printing settings. User guide, written by Sibers technical writers, can answer possible users' questions about the service. A great variety of templates enables you to create a unique design and add some text (even pages of it if necessary). The drag and drop interface makes it easier for you to add new pictures to the book, while the built-in user-friendly photo editing tool allows to rotate, resize and brighten the photos, adjust contrast, hue and saturation. If an added photo has lower resolution for the chosen template, there appears a low resolution sign warning users that this picture may appear not that good in the printed album. We also implemented a feature of printing a photo to the whole page, i.e. leaving no borders on the sides.

In order to create an attractive and glossy photo book of coffee table book quality, the service offers full color printing directly on the hardcover and the title of the album – on the spine.

AlbumLab software is compatible with Windows XP, ME, 2000, 98Se and is available in a number of languages including English, French, German, Japanese and Russian.

Full software development cycle offered by Sibers enabled our customer from New Zealand take her niche in remote printing services market. In a highly competitive environment, our ideas and technical implementation brought new value and perspective to the startup business.
